The Sorghum Energy Management Company aims to provide biomass electricity to the national grid for a realistic price. The project will grow Sorghum in several sites around the UK, combining all aspects of the process. The company will obtain the seed and pay farmers to grow it. The stalks will then be chopped and used as fuel for an electricity generator while the grain will be milled and either sold wholesale or directly to consumers.
The overriding advantage of this approach is that the costs of growing and refining the sorghum are met by exploiting all avenues of the crop.
